Marriage, a lifelong union between a man and a woman for procreation and mutual support, is a natural institution, but it is also one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Marriage reflects the union of Jesus Christ and His Church.
The first step towards your Catholic marriage is to contact a priest or deacon of the parish betweenninemonthsanda yearin advance, to let them know of your intentions. Similar to the other sacraments of the Church, the Sacrament of Marriage requires special formation. The priest or deacon officiating at your marriage will set a schedule to meet with you both, periodically, to assist in making the appropriate preparations for marriage. No marriage date is discussed untilafterthe initial meeting with the priest or deacon and the marriage preparations are underway.
Any questions concerning the church's guidelines on marriage should be directed only to a priest or deacon of the parish. Marriage Preparation at St. Edward Parish is directed by Fr. Albert Lahens, Jr., Associate Pastor.
