Fr. Michael Eivers was the founding pastor of St. Edward Catholic Church in 1995, having been given his assignment to build a church in the Everglades by Archbishop Edward McCarthy; hence the name St. Edward.
In the very beginning, Sunday Mass was celebrated in the home of a few parishioners who assisted Fr. Eivers in establishing the Church. From homes, the Church moved to a movie theater on Sunday morning then on to Walter C. Young Middle School for a short time and lastly on to Chapel Trail Elementary School. After approximately 4½ years the church building was completed and dedicated on January 22, 2000 by Archbishop Favalora.
In July 2011, Fr. John Peloso was appointed pastor of St. Edward, still a very young parish with about 2,700 families. Together with our associate pastor Fr. Albert Lahens, Jr., the parish continues to grow in the spirit of welcome and in joyful and reverent worship. Come visit our family and receive our very special St. Edward welcome!
