Pastor's letter

Father John Peloso

Welcome to St. Edward Parish in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

I was born on November 11, 1955 in the Bronx, New York.  I came to Florida in 1957 when I was 2 years old.  I am one of eight children, and I have an identical twin brother, Mike.  I did many things before I became a priest: from work in construction, painting cars, farming, commercial scuba diving, to professional kickboxing.  I played many sports and ‘lettered’ in football, wrestling, and track & field, and of course Lunch 101, in high school! I am Fr. John Peloso and I have been a priest for a little over 16 years.  This is my 4thappointment in

the service of the Lord and the service of the Archbishop of Miami.  My education includes a B.A. in Philosophy, a full four year degree in Psychology, and two master degrees, one in Divinity and one is Systematic Theology from Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary.

After college I entered the martial arts for eight years and was undefeated in the kickboxing arena.  The most important thing, however, is that God somehow got my attention, and I realized that God was indeed real, and a real part of my life NOW, inthislife.  Secondly, I needed His word, to know His way, His thinking, in order to be happy.  All these things were given to me through Jesus His Son.

However, faith and spirituality are not mindless activities.  In fact, there is no real faith or spirituality without using our brains and thinking.  The famous Catholic theologian, Avery Dulles, borrowing from St. Paul said, “Faith and reason go hand in hand; no faith without reason and no reason without faith.”

growing together 250

St. Edward community has over 3,000 registered families from very diverse backgrounds and cultures, all brought together in the Body of Christ.  We are a fairly young community, just over 17 years old, and we offer opportunities for involvement in many ministries ranging from youth groups, choirs, cell groups (small prayer groups that meet in homes)

to the standard liturgical ministries.

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the information, current events, and resources given on our site.  In addition I invite you to attend our gatherings designed to welcome new parishioners to the parish.  Please check the weekly bulletin for the date and time for the next gathering.

Take a moment to greet me after Mass on your way out.  I hope while I’m here I can share some of my experiences with you as we listen together and reflect on God’s word and life, Jesus the Lord; and together seek to do His will, to love one another, and to have a lot of fun!

God bless you,

Rev. John Peloso
