Religious Education

sted-rel-ed-320Our Faith formation and sacrament preparation program is for all children in First Grade through High School.  We are pleased to offer a program guided by dedicated volunteers who give their time, talent, and spirit of enthusiasm to your children.

Description of the Religious Education Program:

Grades 1 to 5
Monday Or Tuesday 5:45 PM to 7:00 PM

Pre-Communion and First Holy Communion

  • This is a program that covers two (2) consecutive years.
  • Students cannot receive the sacrament earlier than the Second Grade.
  • During the first year children learn about the life of Jesus, the Church, and the Mass.
  • During the second year the children focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) and on receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist.


Religious Education Enrichment
(Continuing Education)

  • This program is for children that have already received their First Holy Communion.
  • Children in this program are in Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade.
  • Students learn about the Apostles Creed, the Sacraments, the life of Jesus, and Catholic Prayers, in a student-friendly format. 

Grades 6 to High School

Monday or Tuesday 7:15 PM to 8:30 PM

Sixth Grade (Continuing Education)

  • Students learn about the Apostles Creed, the Sacraments, the life of Jesus, and Catholic Prayers in a student-friendly format. 

Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation

  • This is a program that covers two (2) consecutive years.
  • Students cannot receive the sacrament earlier than the Eighth Grade.
  • During the first year they learn about Catholic Church teachings, the Nicene Creed, and the Beatitudes.
  • During the second year students learn about the examination of conscience and are encouraged to become disciples of Jesus Christ and to further enrich their lives as Catholics.

Guidelines and requirements for registering in the Religious Education Program

    • Registrations are only accepted in the Religious Education Office.  Our office hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During June, July and August, registrations will be taken on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in addition to our daytime hours.
    • Parents of the students have to be registered members of St. Edward Parish for at least 3 months prior to registering their children for Religious Education classes.
    • The documents that are needed for registration are: a Birth Certificate, Baptism Certificate, and Communion Certificate where applicable.
    • If parents have been divorced or are separated, additional paperwork is needed.
    • If a family member other than a parent is completing the registration, a permission letter from the parent(s) is required.
    • The tuition must be paid in full. We accept cash, credit card, or check. Fees are as follows: $150 for one (1) child in a family; $225 for two (2) children in a family attending classes; and $300 for three (3) or more children in a family attending classes. Please note that an additional fee of $50 is required for each child in the year they are receiving a sacrament.
    • No registration form will be accepted unless all the necessary documents and paperwork, along with payment, are included.
